Shimon graduated with a B.Sc.(Hons) Physics from Imperial College, London in 1964.

After four years experience in private practice, Shalit made aliyah in 1969, and over the following decade served as Patent Counsel for the National Council of Research and Development and for various government ministries, including the Government Research Laboratories and the Ministries of Defense and Agriculture, the National Physical Laboratory and the Atomic Energy Commission.

From 1980 to 2005, Shalit served the Israel Patent Office in various capacities including as an Examiner of both trademarks and patents. In a rich career including serving as Head of the PCT Department and on IP Legislative Committees, Shalit served as Counsel to the Commissioner of Patents, as senior Formalities Counsel and drafted many patent office internal procedures.

Shalit joined JMB & Co. in 2006. In addition to general prosecution of patents, design and trademarks, his speciality is dealing with procedural issues such as reinstatements of lapsed patents, late entry and missed deadlines.
