Yaakov Schatz is licensed to practice before both the Israel Patent Office (IPO) and the United States Patent Office (USPTO). He has a Masters' degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, both from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. Schatz specializes in telecommunication and computing patents.

As a twelfth grader in 1985, Schatz won the National Bible Quiz for Youth in Israel. He placed third in the International competition that is televised on Israel Independence Day. After being drafted into an elite tank unit, Schatz went on to win the Israel Defense Forces Bible Quiz the following year and has also competed on television for the title of Highest IQ in Israel.
